Mike Coffin of Austrian Finalist WBC Wels joins Showcase Coaching Staff in Las Vegas

12974268_10154061566511684_5158358989250597598_nJune 3rd 2016 – We are excited to announce Mike Coffin as one of the Head-Coaches for our Scorers 1st Showcase in Las Vegas on July 13th and 14th.

Mike is currently the Head-Coach of Austrian top-league team WBC Wels which he led to the Austrian Finals series during the 2015-16 campaign.

Meet Coach Mike Coffin in the Q&A below:

Q: What are you looking for when you scout players and how can the Scorers 1st Showcase help with that?

A: I’m looking for players first that are committed to working hard and working within a team concept. Also players with good attitudes. The last thing I’m interested in is if the player is selfish or able to use his abilities within a team

Q: Why did you decide to coach a team at the Scorers 1st Showcase and what can players expect from you?

A:  I chose to come here because I’ve never participated in a showcase either as a player or coach. Looking maybe for that “diamond in the rough”. They can expect a coach who demands defense with freedom on the offense.

Q: You have had a very successful year with WBC Wels in the Austrian Top-League making it to the Finals – what were the key parts for your team to make it that far and come together?
A: We had a very tough start. We had to change about 4 players then we had to deal with some injuries. Once we got somewhat healthy and started to believe in each other and the system it all turned around. Went from last midway thru the season to finishing 2nd!
Q: What are the biggest adjustments that players have to make/get used to when going from the US to Europe?
A:   I think the biggest adjustment is the culture shock depending on the city you end up in.  with Internet and all the texting Skype etc it’s a bit easier from 20 years ago. I think the practice level is tougher than college also. Many guys have stated they have never worked this hard before.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
A: Other advice is if it’s your first job don’t worry about the money. Go for the experience and the start. The money will come with your hard work and success.

John Coffino returns to coach at the Scorers 1st Showcase in Las Vegas

June 2nd 2016 – Las Vegas, (NV-USA)
We are happy to make our next coaching announcement for the Scorers 1st Showcase in Las Vegas this July.

After already coaching at the 2015 edition of the Scorers 1st Showcase John Coffino returns for the 2016 edition of our event and will serve as the Head-Coach for Team E this upcoming July.943217_580740245290381_1272620748_nHere is a quick Q&A with John Coffino:

Q: You have been a part of the Scorers 1st Showcase last year and have seen many other events before. What separates the Scorers 1st Showcase from other exposure events?
A: The Scorers 1st Exposure camp is definitely unique from other events in different ways. One is that they hold a draft to select players the coaches want to see and coach. Another difference is they have a wide variety of coaches from all over that work the camp. Different countries have different levels and that is important because of the vast types pf players that attend the camp. Its good that the players get a fair shot at being evaluated and with all the coaches and scouts there they are assured of showcasing their talents and being seen by lots of teams from around the world.

Q: You are now coaching in China, tell us a little more about your club, the goals and what the future holds for your team?

A: Luoyang Golden Stars of the NBL is a new expansion team. It is a first class club and has a strong General Manager with very good ownership. Two imports along with a mix of youth and veteran local players  gives the team a bright future. Obviously we want to be in the top 4 of the league. 14 teams in the NBL this year means you play 26 games in two months. Besides the short term goals  a big gal is to potentially move up into the CBA of China.

Q: What are you looking for when you scout players and how can the Scorers 1st Showcase help with that?
A: I like to look for various traits in a player. Having coached overseas and at every level I have a feel of what teams are looking for and how to land a good job.  One is attitude, how do they relate on and off the floor. Professionalism, do they carry themselves well and will they represent the team as a good ambassador. Hunger, is the player hungry to showcase what he is to offer. Skills, what skills does the player possess. Good shooter? Defensively? Shot blocker? good floor leader? rebounder? Lastly I look for toughness and athleticism. Mentally and physical toughness is key as well as his athletic ability.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

A: I am looking forward to this years exposure showcase after really enjoying working with last years group of players and coaches.. I know there will be a lot of talented players and I love sharing what I know about playing overseas and teaching the game of basketball that has given me so much over these past 25 plus years.

B Hoops To Add Video Scouting Reports & Highlight Video Services To Scorers 1st Showcases

May 18th 2016 –
B-Hoops LogoProper video is an integral part to the recruiting process for each team that’s looking to fill open roster spots each year. Coaches spend hours in front of their computers looking at film, evaluating talent and researching information. Often times players don’t get a serious look, because they don’t have film or have bad quality film which is tough to watch with so many HD options to look at these days.

To help our participants in Düsseldorf and Las Vegas we have partnered with B Hoops for both Scorers 1st Showcases to provide good quality film and detailed scouting reports for all participating players.

“I’m pleased to announce the partnership with B Hoops, as they will add more value to our participants with their scouting reports and understanding of what pro coaches are looking for when evaluating talent and video. The addition of this service is super important for the players and adds to their exposure which is our ultimate goal at each Scorers 1st Showcase – maximum exposure.” says Scorers 1st CEO Gerrit Kersten-Thiele.

Here is a quick Q & A with the founders of B Hoops:
Q: Please give us some background on B Hoops – what do you do and when did you start?
A: B Hoops is scouting service that makes highly professional video scouting reports about basketball players playing worldwide on different levels. We officially started our company 18th of March 2016. Anyhow our  background in video editing goes back a couple of years while working as basketball club coaches in Hungary and Denmark. Using most modern and also self made scouting tools our service and web page will assemble the best posibble information about players from different leagues and levels, while we break down their full game videos.
Q: What service will you provide for players participating in the Scorers 1st Showcases in Düsseldorf and Las Vegas?
A: Instead of standard highlight promo videos we are offering all participants of the Scorers 1st Showcases our video scouting reports.  Players usually make short highlight videos that can’t really show their full potential with all of their strengths. Working as club coaches we know exactly what coaches will look at in the recruitment process so our scouting videos can give a clear picture what the players strengths are. Our reports show players full potential so they have an easier time to showcase themselves in the recruitment process. After watching our break down videos coaches have a better knowledge about players so it will for sure help players find the right playing situations.
Q: What else do you want to share about your company and/or your partner?
A: Our scouting service recently became NCAA compliant what we are also very proud of. We are growing from day to day and we are getting highly recognized from coaches and agents around the world. For 60 days of existence we already made 41 scouting reporst that can be checked on our web page and YouTube page. Saying that in the same period we have more than 12.500 views on our Youtube channel just after that short period.
